Hawazin Wright, 43, was arrested for aggravated assault, drug possession, harassing telephone calls, and written threats to kill. However, the State Attorney’s Office has decided against pursuing felony charges against the Palm Beach County teacher, as revealed in recently released court documents.

As of Wednesday, Wright, who previously taught English at Boynton Beach Community High School, remains incarcerated in Palm Beach County Jail since his last arrest on Nov. 26.

Court records indicate that the State Attorney’s Office declined to pursue charges related to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, possession of ecstasy/MDMA, harassing telephone calls, and written threats to kill or do bodily harm. These charges stemmed from two separate arrests within a short period.

One incident occurred on Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, at O’Shea’s Pub in West Palm Beach. Witnesses reported seeing Wright behaving erratically and approaching a woman aggressively. When confronted by a security guard, Wright allegedly brandished a retractable baton in a threatening manner. Although he was apprehended, the victim chose not to cooperate with the investigation, leading to the dismissal of charges.

Similarly, charges from a Nov. 26 arrest, where Wright allegedly harassed and threatened a woman he had been dating, were also dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Wright also faces misdemeanor charges from a previous incident on Nov. 19, where he was accused of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting an officer without violence during a pro-Palestinian rally.

A risk protection order issued against Wright remains in effect, prohibiting him from possessing firearms due to concerns about potential harm to himself or others.

All these arrests occurred during the Thanksgiving break when schools were not in session. Wright’s next court appearance regarding the misdemeanor charges is scheduled for Jan. 11.
